We flew on Delta out of Cincinnati Airport. This was our first view out of the plane window of Hawaii Island. Posted by Picasa

Our room at Volcano House. The furniture was all made of Hawaiian koa, and there was a Hawaiian quilt bedspread. I loved waking up to the crater view. Posted by Picasa

Dad near steam vent area. You can walk right up to the vents; very fascinating!  Posted by Picasa

Rainbow visible through volcanic haze. As I mentioned before, one of the beauties of this National Park was the fact that there were so few people there. Dad and I loved the quiet and the solitary feeling. Posted by Picasa

I loved the Jagger Museum! Here is part of a very interesting display of seismographs. A week after we left, there was a 5.7 quake near Hilo. Posted by Picasa

A grand ocean view near the bottom of Chain of Craters Road. Shortly past this we reached the area where the lava was flowing into the ocean. Posted by Picasa

Petroglyph Trail was my favorite walk. It was desert-like terrain and quite hot, though, and we both got sunburned. Posted by Picasa

Lobby of Volcano House. The anthuriums in the vase are a specialty of this island. The hotel was full of flowers inside and outside. Posted by Picasa

Sunrise at Kilauea Crater. This is the view from the Volcano House restaurant, where we ate breakfast for two days. Posted by Picasa

The Big Island is a lot bigger in area and a lot less populated than Oahu; we were very pleased with the solitary, more rural feeling. Posted by Picasa

We walked across this bridge and spent a lazy morning on Coconut Island in Hilo Bay. Posted by Picasa

Near the end of our stay on the island of Hawaii, we visited Rainbow Falls. Posted by Picasa

A beautiful flower in the Audubon Park. The highlight of my Oahu stay was swimming in Waimea Bay. We couldn't have asked for better weather, and there were many giant honu (Hawaiian sea turtles) swimming all around us. Posted by Picasa
